ABOUT HILARY MARTIN
Before starting her own practice in 1997, Hilary Martin was an Associate Director of Derek Lovejoy Partnership in Manchester. Working for one of the largest landscape practices she was responsible for major projects throughout the UK, and abroad.
She designed and managed £7.5m worth of urban coastal regeneration projects in North Wales which were recognised by awards from the Concrete Society and the Brick Development Association. She was also responsible for the landscape of the new Royal Life offices in Peterborough which won a Civic Trust Award, and Barclays Bank offices in Cheshire which won a BALI award.
Abroad, she was involved at a senior level in the creation of a series of "English" themed gardens in Mito City, Japan; the masterplan for a regional park on the outskirts of the Basque capital, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain; and, as part of a multi-national design team for a university town in northern Iraq.
Moving to Dorset
On moving to Dorset, Hilary Martin worked for Purbeck District Council. There she was involved in public consultation, detailed design and contract administration as part of a special Millennium project in the district.
Since starting her own practice, Hilary Martin has successfully developed a very broad range of skills to suit the local environment and client base. Detailed design for residential developments including private gardens is key, as is a very varied range of work commissioned by Local Authorities. She works with planning consultants and land agents to find acceptable and environmentally enhancing solutions for built development in the rural landscape. And, she has successfully appeared as an expert witness on landscape and visual matters in planning inquiries throughout England.
